With miles of wide sandy beach, Cayucos State Beach is the perfect locale for a Sunday morning stroll with your four-legged friend.
While there are multiple beach access locations, many people park on Studio Drive and walk down one of the several sets of stairs leading to the beach from that neighborhood. All access locations have doggie-duty bags available for dog owners to snag on their way down. This is a must-have.
Because the beach goes on for miles (you can pretty much walk from Cayucos to Morro Bay, the next town over), you’ll often find people walking and running with their dogs. Although leashes are technically required, very few abide by the rules and very rarely are they enforced (go leash-less at your own risk).
Great news for water-loving pooches – the water right off the coastline isn’t very deep if your dog is a good swimmer. The combination of swimming and running is bound to equate in an exhausted dog and a happy owner.
Aside from being a dog’s paradise, owners can take in the pristine beauty of the California coast and during the right time of year, can often spot dolphins in the water nearby.
Add a trip to Cayucos to your weekend to-do list.
Best for: all breeds, active dogs, good swimmers.
