Where You’ll Stay
Still longing for summer? Don’t fret. Summer in San Diego is endless.
And if there’s a beachside bungalow with your dog’s name on it, it’s this San Diego Airbnb cottage. This 100-year old, renovated piece of sunkissed real estate is just a tennis ball toss away from the beach, eateries, and scenic walks. Inside is crisp, neutral, nautical, and oh-so comfy. Outside is a perfect patio for lounging and sipping with the sound of nearby ocean waves as your vacation soundtrack.
Waypoint Cottage is in the residential area of Ocean Beach—a less touristy, authentically Californian, once-bumping hippie ‘hood of the 60s-70s that hasn’t lost it’s touch (yes, you’ll probably hear some classic Bob Marley playing in the distance). The beach party atmosphere is a few blocks away, so don’t worry about debauchery worrying the pooch. Instead, the comforting sounds of a friendly beach community will charm you—families and couples strolling about, screen-doors slamming shut from the excitement of the ocean calling, and dogs barking in play. Not to mention the mouth watering aroma of nearby BBQs.
While there’s plenty to enjoy at the cottage, you and Fido are close to so much more—your hosts, Jennifer and her husband, are happy to provide recommendations, or you can simply walk along Newport Avenue and North OB to discover hidden San Diego gems on your own two plus four-legged adventures.
Why We Love It
Inside the cottage (where you probably won’t be spending much time) are all the essentials: boogie board, wifi, breakfast treats, bikes, a fully stocked kitchen for creating culinary delights, and even dog wash for scrubbing those sandy paws.
The best part? This place isn’t just close to the beach—it’s close to the dog beach. Take a morning walk, afternoon jaunt, or evening stroll…or all three. Or mix it up a bit. Here’s our recommendation for a perfect OB day:
- Wake up and smell the fresh ocean breeze.
- Make coffee to-go and take Fido for a stroll along the water.
- Head to Shade’s Bistro for a hearty breakfast (dog friendly, of course).
- Skip over to Shelter Island for a fishing trip.
- Take the trolley to shop for knickknacks and chew toys.
- Grab an order of fish tacos and rest your paws on Tower Two‘s dog friendly patio.
- Swing by Culture Brewing to pick up some local brews to enjoy on the cottage’s patio.
- End the day with a game of fetch on the beach…after all, nothing beats a West Coast sunset.
What You Need to Know
The cottage is $99 per night, with two rooms to accommodate four guests (plus the furry one). There is a $60 cleaning fee and a strict no party rule—although, your dog is welcome to party at the beach all day. The minimum night stay varies depending on the season.
Editor’s Note: As always, we recommend that you check with the dog friendly Airbnb homeowner for specific restrictions on breed, size, or number of dogs allowed in the residence.
