Little Bucharest Bistro
3661 North Elston Avenue
Chicago, Illinois 60618
Little Bucharest is the European home away from home you (and your dog) have been waiting for. Prominently perched on the corner of Elston in Irving Park, the restaurant is a sidewalk soiree in the summer, complete with Romanian musicians and firelight, while the winter suppers warm you from the inside out with borscht and good cheer. If you and your four-legged companion have a soft spot for feasting on goulash and schnitzel while reveling in five star hospitality, Little Bucharest is your sanctum.
Stop in for dinner, with a menu focused on dishes from the homeland, yet still vegetarian friendly. We recommend a hearty, meat-centric entree, and a simpler portion for the pooch. The food is filling, the atmosphere is charming, but the best part might be the owner, Branko, who will chat you up like a long lost friend and pet your four-legged best friend until he’s a loyal patron. He even performs a special ceremony fit for a king—just ask for the Holy Water treatment. Trust us.
With Romanian wine, fare, music, and decor of stained glass and Old World fixtures, Little Bucharest is somewhat of a cultural institution for the community—its welcoming atmosphere just like the city of its namesake. The restaurant is often open until 2 AM, best for a late, European style meal with family or friends, dog included of course. The welcoming eclectic atmosphere will keep you coming back for more Holy Water on the regular.
Best for: veal-chowing shepherds, Europhiles, Chicago bistro diners, summer soirees
