You can’t always quench a mutt’s thirst with dog park water. A lively dive bar that allows dogs inside? No, this is not a drill. A North Park den for over 20 years, the name of the Live Wire game is cold beer and warm friendship (four-legged friends included). Live Wire is the type of place that’s a tad punk rock, a little bit grunge, and 100% good times—and the bartenders have personality and stories for days. Hit Live Wire up for happy hour from 5 to 8 PM to sip $4 beers under the red mood lighting next to your party animal (who gets his own stool, of course.)
Live Wire hosts pinball, pool, and TVs. Watch a comedy flick or the weird documentary that someone selected from Netflix. Pro tip: sometimes the pizza joint nearby brings over free slices after they close; or if you and the pooch really have the munchies, run over to Mama’s Bakery and bring it back to enjoy with your cocktail in a pint glass.
Squirmers and scaredy cats, be warned. The pup might get a little spooked with the dim lighting, jukebox singing, and booze slinging, but there are plenty of fellow dogs around to befriend. You might want to bring him in on a weekday evening…at least to start.
The rules of Live Wire are simple: bring your (four-legged) friend, your own food, and an iron liver.
Best for: dive-y dogs, night owls, live wire mutts
