White Dog Café [University City location]
3420 Sansom Street
Philadelphia, PA 19104
You know, we pride ourselves on the written quality of these posts.
Our boss occasionally disagrees, but hey…everyone is allowed to be wrong.
Saying that, as much as we want to impress with our biting (get it?) openings, there is no better way of introducing you to White Dog Café than by sharing some of their cocktail names:
- Great Dame
- Gin Tin Tonic
- Smashing Dog
- Hair of the Xolo
- Dirty Dog
Now that should save us any time spent trying to convince you that they’re obsessed with dogs here. Obsessed. Like, if you left and your dog stayed, they’d not run after you.
So that’s the drinks and doggie love covered.
How about the menu? Well, to say “it’s one of the best farm-to-table restaurants in the neighborhood” would be a gross understatement. We’re talking fresh and local. No joke. Most of it comes from the farms right outside Philly. Probably not further than Quakertown (edit: they do get a few things from New Jersey, but we see that more as philanthropy).
Atmosphere? Exactly what you’d expect. Beamy. Exposed wood. Licks of white paint throughout. Brick. Old lamps.
It’s a perfect first-date spot. Subtle, but quality.
And if you can’t impress your Tinder match with this spot and Spot himself, then you do not deserve a) a dog and b) to date.
