You have a decent career job, friends who are good enough to throw back a few beers with on the weekends, and a nice home in a state you love. You may or may not be single, but it’s fine either way because there’s always Tinder. Yet, despite your apparent success, something’s missing. Ah! Yes, a dog. We’ve done our due diligence and found the perfect rescue dog for residents of all 50 states. And if you’re from Colorado, we’ve found the perfect adventure dog for you.

The name of the perfect Colorado dog is the thing you like to do when you’re high…
If you guessed Chow Chow, congratulations, you nailed it! The state was once best known for its gorgeous slopes, ski resorts, majestic hikes and…it still is. BUT it’s no secret that all these outdoor adventures can now be enhanced (legally) by marijuana. Since Colorado became the first state to legalize recreational pot use in 2012, it has become a model for chillness. And Chow Chows are the definition of chill. They are relatively low energy dogs, highly adaptable to apartment life, and don’t mind some alone time (just like you when you’re high). They need to watch the snacking, since they can get pudgy easily (also just like you when you’re high). They’re pretty much the perfect stoner companion, if you ask us (minus the smoking for Fido, of course).
Chow Chows are incredibly loyal companions. They’re not the most social of creatures, but are very loving to their owners— making them a great fit for the more rural areas of Colorado and its cities that aren’t super jam-packed. They’re also built for the cold with big poofy fur, perfect for all the snowy winter adventures Colorado has to offer. Chow Chows are not down with running, but enjoy a nice walk or a slow mountain hike. Nicknamed “Fluffy Lion Dog” in China, where the breed originates, they’re often compared to lions not just for their manes but also for their proud nature.
