First things first. Nowadays is not on a radioactive waste site.
Did a report come out a couple of years ago suggesting it was near one? Yes it did. Was that detrimental to this fantastic summer spot? Yes it was. Have both the EPA and everyone on the Ridgewood and Bushwick border now tested said areas to make sure that wasn’t true? Yes they have.
But maybe it also got a bit of a reprieve when it closed down for the winter and crowdsourced funding for a permanent indoor space. Don’t worry, the killer backyard is still there, it’s back open for the season/permanently, and it’s still the most perfect dog friendly, sun-shiny spot. Frankly, Nowadays was firmly near the top of the list of our summertime favorites before, and now it’s moved even further up.
The pups have as much to do as it does the owners (see: picnic tables, bocce ball, and ping pong). A food truck in the backyard with a new, tasty menu to make sure you’re well fed as you drink your local beers and sangria. And of course there’s plenty of ice cold water for Fido to cool down in.
We’re pretty excited about the new weekly events, too. A Wednesday night film series? A pig roast during the weekly Saturday ping pong tournament? We only hope it doesn’t get too crowded, what with it being all non-radioactive and all.
Nowadays’ backyard is just so nice and spread out you’ll forget for a few hours that you’re in New York until someone shows up in rollerskates. And we guess that’s okay too.
