As the groundhog predicted, it was a long winter. You and your dog were cooped up together for far too long and it’s high time the two of you saw some actual real people, not just the ones on your TV. We suggest hitting up dog friendly DC neighborhood cafe Commissary for your warm summer thaw.

Located on Logan Circle, Commissary serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. It’s also a great place for a midday snack, offering a variety of small plates, smoothies, yummy milkshakes and house-made desserts. Pro tip: try the red plum and mascarpone empanada.

The large outdoor patio is the perfect place to enjoy the warm sunshine and catch up on your people-watching with your dog happily seated by your side. The big bar room and lounge area will do when the weather is not so hot (or, maybe, too hot—you know those swampy DC days), as long as your pup is at home. And no good career-minded citizen of DC would complain about the free wifi.

Commissary boasts of its honest pricing and rightfully so. Aside from offering a diverse and affordable menu daily, there are definitely sweet deals to be had. Taking Monday off? Let your weekend carry over by hitting the joint for “Bottomless Monday”—$15 bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas from 8am-4pm. For the taco freaks out there, there’s “2.50 Tuesday,” where all tacos and drafts beers are, you guessed it, $2.50. And Commissary’s daily happy hour is long—from 3pm to 7pm—with an extensive menu in both the food and drink departments.

Sure, Commissary does offer delivery, but you know that after this past winter your social skills need some thawing out. Same goes for your dog.
