Ah, summer. Long days, hot nights. We know you want to spend as much time out in the world with your pup as possible before hibernation begins again, so each week, we’re bringing you the hottest summer spots to chill with your dog—and enjoy a nice, cold glass of reprieve. New York City may hold in the heat (and the smells) like no other, but it’s still got its charm—and no shortage of excellent, dog friendly bars and beer gardens. Here are our top five for 2017.

You’ll feel like you’ve escaped NYC when you step into the massive outdoor space of Nowadays, which now has a permanent indoor space, too, in its Ridgewood/Bushwick spot. Killer beer selections and sangria, along with a food truck (to remind you that you are indeed still in NYC), and plenty of games and entertainment for both you and your pup.

The recent resurgence of East Village + ABC City has turned many a shoddy spot into a hidden marvel and d.b.a. is no exception. Crafty folks without the mixology, neighborhood-like feel without a record-scratch when you walk in. Dogs are loved.

Queens is certainly becoming an it-spot, and LIC Bar, two blocks from the Long Island City waterfront, is no exception. The massive-by-New-York-standards backyard welcomes well-behaved off-leash dogs while you drink your pints and enjoy the breeze coming off the East River.

Consistently voted “Best Dog Bar in NYC,” look for excellent beer selection, quick cocktails, large outdoor area for Fido to sniff around (or in) and a crowd that will almost make you forget that you thought you could live in NYC for under $100k. Weekends are nuts, but with good reason.

Forever our staff favorite. Think the days of weird locals getting together nightly and getting shitcanned next to their dogs and takeout pizza are gone? Shame on you. Time it on a night without music the first trip, then plan on attending it the second. We love Mona’s.

A group of dog lovers that enjoy a good game of fetch in the park, a cold drink at a sidewalk patio, and Instagramming dog selfies with the best of them. We're working hard to find the best stories about our shared dog culture for you and your best friend.
