Ah, summer. Long days, hot nights. We know you want to spend as much time out in the world with your pup as possible before hibernation begins again, so each week, we’re bringing you the hottest summer spots to chill with your dog—and maybe enjoy a nice, cold glass of reprieve. In the hot and hip city of Austin we know you need it, even if you’re commuting in from Pflugerville. Here are our top five to keep it weird for 2017.
Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill
How you’re going to manage Fido in one hand, a cocktail in the other, and taking a thousand photos of this dreamy spot is beyond us, but we trust you’ll want to do all three. Absolutely bonkers on the weekends, but if you can play hooky from work one day, this is the spot you’ll not leave until they ask you to.
Yellow Jacket Social Club
With a name like this, you know ours isn’t the only list mentioning this spot, even if it’s not for everyone. A proper watering hole, combined with a ridiculous menu and a lively outdoor area that consists of DJs, mechanical bulls, friendly folks, even if they might be hipsters, and even friendlier dogs. Go inside for a proper lesson on “how to decorate a vintage bar.”
Is it a convenience store or a wine store or a snack shack or a dog friendly gathering place? The answer: all of the above. One of the more “Austin” experiences you can have without going home with 18 pearl snap shirts and disdain for Dallas. Incredible selection to drink there or carry out. Watch out for/enjoy Fido and his pals running between legs and bar stools.
Micklethwait Craft Meats
If you can ever figure out how to pronounce it, let us know. Regardless, in a town hell-bent on disagreeing on everything, this spot brings every dog-and-BBQ-loving local together. All from a trailer! PS: treat yourself to a Mexican Coke.
Another great, repurposed old building—previously a general store—that excels in proper coffee, alongside some serious beer and wines. Why their menu isn’t getting more accolades is always surprising, as it’s one of the better spots for a bite, but trust us when we say that it only takes one visit to immediately make this a regular stop.
