You have a decent career job, friends who are good enough to throw back a few beers with on the weekends, and a nice home in a state you love. You may or may not be single, but it’s fine either way because there’s always Tinder. Yet, despite your apparent success, there’s something missing. Ah! Yes, a dog. We’ve done our due diligence and found the perfect rescue dog for residents of all 50 states. This week, we’ve got the perfect quirky dog for perhaps the quirkiest state in the union.

* * *

Ohio is home to some of the weirdest attractions in the United States. These include such houses as the Trash House (yes, it’s made entirely out of trash) and the UFO House (yes, it’s made to look like the home of an alien). Ohio is proud of famous native rocker Dave Grohl and honored him by creating an alley devoted to the drummer, touting the world’s largest drum stick. Other weird sites to see: the Lego Museum (OK, not that weird), the Great Serpent Mound, the Dittrick Museum’s historical contraception exhibit, the “Wall of Gum,” and more—lots more. Ohio is a quirky state, so dog lovers should have a quirky dog, like a Puli.

Pulis turn heads because they literally look like mops with four legs. Their dreadlock-like fur waterproofed them when they were originally bred as herding dogs in their native Hungary. While their distinct looks cannot help but warm your heart, their personalities are just as irresistible. Pulis are loving, quirky, and totally confident. They also have a sense of humor, which is a must in Ohio. You can’t be from the home state of the largest picnic basket in the world and take yourself too seriously.

Like Ohio natives who love their home for all its quirks, natural marvels, and famous national contributions (for example, seven U.S. presidents), Pulis love and are protective of their homes and loved ones. If you’re ready to find a Puli for your Ohio home, here are some resources to check out.
